Land Back - Unangam Tanangin long sleeve tee
Introducing the inaugural piece in Native Movement’s Land Back series, the Unangam Tanangin (lands of the Unangam) design. It sheds light on the unceded territory of the Unangax̂ (Aleut people) who both belong to and steward the land and water. The artwork portrays a powerful narrative where a Sea Wolf grapples with a trawler, symbolizing the struggle against over-harvesting and the depletion of ocean resources caused by these commercial fishing boats. The resulting ecological imbalance leads to significant hardships in food sovereignty thereby adversely impacting many if not most Alaskan Indigenous communities, tribes and peoples who are dependent on healthy fish runs. The Unangam Tanangin design aims to draw attention to the urgent need for Land Back, emphasizing the critical connection between Indigenous rights, environmental stewardship and social justice. We encourage everyone to learn more and dive deeper into the profound and multi-generational concept of "#LandBack.”
